Euro-MP to meet with South Staffs disability workers

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 3rd Oct 2002

Staffordshire MEP and Rapporteur for the European Year for People with Disabilities 2003 Liz Lynne will be meeting a delegation of professionals working with people with learning disabilities from South Staffordshire on Friday to discuss their work and the implications of upcoming European Year.

Commenting on the European Year for People with Disabilities 2003, Liz Lynne said:

“The purpose of the European Year will be to place issues affecting people with disabilities firmly in the mainstream. For too long people with disabilities have been treated as a medical problem rather than human beings with the right to play a full role in society.

“Access for people with learning disabilities can be all the more intractable because their problems are often invisible and thus harder to comprehend. I look forward to a constructive meeting.”
