Liz welcomes canal restoration cash boost3.46.19pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 2nd Apr 2003
Worcestershire MEP Liz Lynne has welcomed an announcement by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Advantage West Midlands confirming first stage funding approval of £7 million for the restoration of Droitwich Canal. Liz visited Droitwich Canal with the Chair of the Droitwich Canals Trust, Margaret Rowley on Monday. The Liberal Democrat MEP commented: "This is excellent news and a vindication of the work of hundreds of volunteers who have been working to restore the canal for many years." "Droitwich Canal is a major tourist attraction and this restoration will be a boost to the local economy. More importantly, it will be a major boost for the local flora and fauna, creating nearly 6 hectares of reed beds and wetland. I am delighted to see this project moving forward." Liz is Vice President of the Droitwich Canals Trust. For more information about the Trust, see http://www.worcs.com/dct/.
