The West Midlands has established links with the Polish province of Lower Silesia. Liz spoke to some of their representatives via a videoconferencing link in the European Parliament last autumn.

Commenting on yesterday's historic vote by the European Parliament to give the go ahead to enlargement, West Midlands Liberal Democrat Euro MP Liz Lynne said:

"At a time of global crisis, it is worth reflecting on the European Union's continued success at uniting hundreds of millions of people through trade and common interest. "

"By accepting within its folds many countries that were behind the Iron Curtain 15 years ago, the European Union has shed its image as an exclusive club for the rich and has set an example to the rest of the world."
