Blair's mistake still haunts him

12.00.00am GMT Sat 20th Mar 2004

On the first anniversary of the war in Iraq West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne once again demanded a full independent inquiry in to why we went to war.

"Tony Blair made a huge mistake when he chose to support George Bush rather than listen to the British people a year ago. Britain has lost trust in its government, and it will be very difficult for Tony Blair to regain it

"We sent our troops in to a war that was at best questionable at worst illegal, without proper equipment and with no end game strategy. No one will shed a tear that Saddam Hussain has been removed from power but it cost tens of thousands of lives, and people are still dying in Iraq.

"The only way we can make sure this country never again goes to war on a false prospectus is to learn the lessons from the past. We can only do this if we have a full independent inquiry. The public have no confidence in the Butler inquiry and until the Prime Minister answers the question why we went to war on a false prospectus, it will continue to haunt him and his Government."
