We must not forget about other detainees at Guantanamo Bay

5.55.35pm GMT Tue 25th Jan 2005

Commenting on the return of Moazzam Begg and the three other Guantanamo Bay detainees, West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne said:

"At long last the battle to get these men out of the legal limbo they have been kept in is over. Those of us who have campaigned for their release have only ever asked for all prisoners to be either charged and tried in a court of law or set free.

"They have been through a long ordeal and it is important that the men are seen by doctors to judge if they are fit to be detained and questioned. The Police and CPS must then make a quick decision either to charge or release them.

"As the last UK detainees are returned to this country many media outlets will inevitably lose interest in Guantanamo Bay. We cannot let the world forget about the several hundred other prisoners who remain in Guantanamo Bay. We must continue to put pressure on the US government to release or charge every prisoner. Those who are charged with crimes should face a fair trial according to international standards of justice."
