Euro-MP Welcomes IOC Decision To Award Paralympics To London3.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 6th Jul 2005 Liberal Democrat Disability Spokesperson in the European Parliament Liz Lynne has welcomed the decision by the IOC to award London the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. She congratulated Lord Coe and his team on a superb bid, and urged them to live up to their promises. "This is a great news for London and the UK. I would urge the Olympic team to use more venues throughout the country and not just concentrate on London. There have been a lot of promises made about transport and regeneration - these must be kept. "We should not lose sight of the fact that the Paralympics will also be coming to the UK. We must have facilities that are fully accessible to all not just for the athletes but for spectators as well. Our Paralympians have come second in the medals table on the last two occasions, and I am sure the games being in the UK will inspire them to greater achievements." ENDS
