LIFTING OF EXPORT BAN A BOOST FOR REGION'S FARMERS

4.48.06pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 24th Aug 2007

The lifting of the ban on British meat and diary exports from Saturday is great news for the region's farmers, says a local Euro-MP.

Speaking today, Liz Lynne, MEP for the West Midlands, said:

"While the restrictions, including the ban on livestock movement, were severe, they appear to have worked and now hopefully business can slowly return to normal."

"Naturally there is a need to remain cautious and vigilant after this outbreak, but this is welcome news for the region and the many local people affected."

"Farmers across the region have had a rough time this summer with foot and mouth disease compounding problems caused by the floods, so hopefully there is now light at the end of the tunnel."
