MEP RELIEF AT SOLIHULL FOOT AND MOUTH FALSE ALARM

11.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 21st Sep 2007

West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne has expressed relief that tests on animals for Foot and Mouth at Woodhouse Farm in Solihull have proved negative.

Liz Lynne said:

"This will be great news for local farmers and residents. Now the temporary restrictions have been lifted life can get back to normal after a distressing past two days.

"Nevertheless the fifth case of Foot and Mouth confirmed in Surrey last week should serve as a reminder that we should remain vigilant. As our local farmers know, it is far better to have a false alarm like at Woodhouse Farm than an outbreak that goes unnoticed until too late."
